The evening will include a two-course Christmas Dinner, with turkey, ham and all the trimmings followed by plum pudding with creme anglais. There is a kids menu available for the little ones.

It is not a real Christmas without Santa. Luckily Santa will be visiting the Brewhouse to hand out gifts and tell cracking Christmas jokes. The kids will love it. Alister Turrill is performing from 7:30pm, and there will be mulled wine and hot buttered rum on special.

This event has all the makings of a good night, and is most certainly for a great cause. Help create some festive magic and raise funds for our local kindergarten and kids.

Explore a landscape of hypnotic interweaving textures, pulsating bass lines and rhythmic vitality

Melbourne Guitar Quartet (MGQ) is a brilliant addition to Australia’s musical landscape. As Melbourne’s leading guitar ensemble, MGQ’s blend of innovative arrangements, technical flair and superb ensemble playing is a joy to experience. Through the use of bass, baritone, standard, treble and octave guitars, MGQ embodies a vibrant and dynamic onstage musical persona that has amassed diverse audience appeal since the quartet’s formation in 2005.

Avid lovers of chamber music, guitar aficionados as well as concert first timers will no doubt be left captivated and fascinated by MGQ’s inimitable re-workings of established classics and feel invigorated by more recent and newly commissioned works. Guitar performance is set to transform as MGQ embarks upon a voyage of exploring the world of guitar as you have never heard it before.

Winter in the Forgotten Valley celebrates the work of some of Australia’s leading composers who established and nurtured the quintessence of Australian guitar music. MGQ’s intention is to transcend what appears as a guitar-lovers paradise. This highly unique program is a rare opportunity to experience Australian guitar music and is well suited for admirers of not only Australian works but all chamber music enthusiasts.

From Nigel Westlake’s rhythmic and colourful Winter in the Forgotten Valley to Robert Davidson’s incredibly evocative River and Cliffs, MGQ explores a landscape of hypnotic interweaving textures, pulsating bass lines and rhythmic vitality; the blend of bass, baritone, standard and treble guitars in Phillip Houghton’s tour de force, News From Nowhere is pure enchantment. Revisiting their acclaimed arrangement of Westlake’s life affirming Omphalo Centric Lecture, MGQ is joined on stage with guest percussionist Steve Falk, culminating in a highly energetic and vibrant celebration of a pioneering all-Australian program set to inspire and thrill.
