The Suitcase Royal...Chronicles of a Sleepless Moon

DECEMBER 2018 ~ Saturday 1 > Saturday 1 December

The Suitcase Royal...Chronicles of a Sleepless Moon

Made up from our friends at Mighty Duke & the Lords and Miles & Simone....The Suitcase Royale are coming back to Birre.

Still hot and sweaty from their last sellout Birregurra show, The Ballad of Backbone Joe, Miles, Joseph and Glen return to Birre to bring us the next edition of their hilarious high-energy junkyard theatre shenanigans. Get ready for a hoot of a night with the madcap comedy theatre show followed by a boot stompin' rockabilly gig.

The Butcher and the Doctor are up to something, and the Newsman sniffs a story that will take him deep into the dead heart of Australia. Deliciously dark and exquisitely crafted, Chronicles of a Sleepless Moon is a funny, sad and surreal fairy tale for grown-ups. Inspired by 1920’s radio, backyard invention, and the unique dark setting of the middle of Australia.

The show will be followed by a boot stompin' gig from, The Suitcase Royale Band.
This is a fundraiser for Birregurra Cricket Club

Entries have opened for Australia’s most respected mountain bike marathon, The Otway Odyssey presented by Focus which will see two new gravel road races added in 2017 line-up over the weekend of 24th-25th February.

For ten years, riders have travelled to the famous Otway rainforest of Forrest in south-western Victoria to take on the region’s iconic single track, but in 2017 even more riders can be part of the action with the addition of the Great Otway Gravel Grind (The GOGG) to the schedule of events.

A Gravel Grind is an event held on unsealed 2WD roads and the Otway Ranges around Forrest are infused with these, making for some superb riding on traffic free roads through the wilderness. The GOGG will include 49km and 97km options that make them achievable for all styles of rider on either road bikes, cyclocross, mountain or hybrid bikes.

The action gets underway on Saturday 24th February with the principle mountain bike races; the 100km Odyssey, the 50km Shorty and the 30km Rookie, all starting and finishing amidst a huge bike expo and food festival at the Forrest Football Ground. The GOGG races and the kids 10km Pioneer MTB will be held on Sunday 25th February.

The Otway Odyssey MTB Marathons have been held for the last 10 years and have grown to become the pre-eminent mountain bike races in Australia and on the bucket list for many cyclists. The courses are well known for their tough climbs and technical trails, but also for the friendliness on course and the race atmosphere around the Forrest Football Ground expo area.

All courses of the Otway Odyssey take advantage of the extensive network of single track and 2WD roads of Forrest and the Otways. Combined with the beauty on offer in the Great Otway National Park, the electrifying race atmosphere and sense of satisfaction you get when you finish in the middle of the massive event festival, it’s an event not to be missed.

SINK YOUR TEETH INTO THIS!

The Otway region is gearing up to showcase everything locally grown and sown.  Some ready to eat and the rest harvested to take home and add a culinary spin.

Mid-Autumn people can enjoy a selection of the best Otway grown produce including olives, cheeses, native bush foods, fruits and vegetables, honey, meats, small goods, baked goods, wines and other brewed delights.

Growers and event organisers want to share their passion for turning humble soil and grass into quality food and fibre, shining a spotlight on the skilled, passionate and diverse growers around us.

Source local food and fibre and contribute to community health, benefit the local economy and our environment.

Taste and purchase local produce; talk to and learn from local growers and makers. Develop growing and making talents by taking part in demonstrations and workshops around the theme of small holding skills like building soil and compost, bee keeping, poultry management, regenerative farming, the lifecycle of wool, native bush foods, truffle sniffer dog trials, shearing and creative kids food and fibre activities.

If you’re a small scale producer or artisan and would like to get involved, please contact Andy Gray on 5232 9140 or andygray@coln.org.au
