Larry and the Dame

Saturday, 16 June 2018 | 08:00 PM to 08:50 PM

LARRY AND THE DAME

“A standing ovation! The show is Farrabulous, don’t miss it!”

Stage Whispers

“She’s more than you’ll ever need but she’s everything you want from a great cabaret artist!”

Kate Ceberano

Act One - THE FABULOUS DAME FARRAR

Celebrate the glory and disaster of this superbly talented Diva and disgraceful, loveable lush. The Dame is a show pony and a half, who, fuelled by her penchant for Gin Martinis, literally rolls out her favourite songs and mostly bullshit anecdotes until she has nothing left to give.

Act Two - LARRY PARADISEO

A showbiz God. He’s got more moves than Mick Jagger and a way with the ladies that makes Tom Jones look a little limp. Women love him. Men want to be him. Larry is the new black. This master of entertainment has a BIG voice a BIG presence and an even BIGGER repertoire.

Alister Turrill has shared the stage with Jeff Lang, Geoff Achison and Lloyd Spiegel on several occasions and has supported the likes of Charlie Parr (US), Tim Rogers, Ash Grunwald, Kim Churchill, Steve Smyth, Tim Freedman and Shane Howard.

Situated on the Great Ocean Road in Apollo Bay where the hills meet the ocean, the Great Ocean Road Brewhouse is a craft beer haven with over 100 craft beers on offer. Beer, wine and cider tastings are available in the tasting room along with fabulous regional produce. Dine in their award-winning bistro with a family-friendly atmosphere and a delicious menu that has something to suit everyone. Warm yourself by the fire or enjoy the beer garden with ocean views. Apollo Bay Discussion Group - Guest Speaker: Dr Lindsay Sparrow

JUNE 2018 ~ Thursday 21 > Thursday 21 June

Apollo Bay Discussion Group - Guest Speaker: Dr Lindsay Sparrow

Apollo Bay Discussion Group @ the SS Casino Room, Apollo Bay Hotel
Guest Speaker: Dr Lindsay Sparrow
Topic: "Proteins in CSIRO (Wool, Blood Cells, Diabetes)"

Dr Sparrow trained as an organic chemist but eventually specialized in the chemistry of proteins.   His studies at Melbourne University led to a PhD in Organic Chemistry, specializing in Natural Products chemistry.  He undertook post-doctoral work first in Microbiology at Melbourne then two years at the University of California at Berkeley and another year at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.

He returned to Australia to a position with the CSIRO Division of Protein Chemistry to work on the structure of wool. As the price of wool dropped so did government support for wool research and the Division broadened its areas of interest.

Lindsay took up the challenge of attempting to isolate and characterise a protein thought to be a controlling factor important for the production of certain blood cells.  He will describe some aspects of his work involving the structure of wool, the formation of blood cells and a protein important in diabetes and relevant to its treatment.

The meeting opens at 6.30pm to allow you to order food and to be seated by 7pm for Lindsay to commence. The Hotel offers a fixed price menu of $20 but you may order from the regular menu. Pink boxes are placed on each table for donations. Donations are optional but all received are distributed back into the local community.

This event is open to everybody.  If you would like to attend, please contact Margaret Murphy by email or phone (03) 5237 6640.

See here for further details about the Discussion Group meetings.

Welcome to the town of Grinalong! Grinalong was once famous for the car race, The Grinalong Classic.

Fifty years ago the race stopped when a wolf that lived in nearby Tangled Woods destroyed racing cars and the drivers fled in terror. Now, the new Mayor has a plan to bring back Grinalong’s glory days, and re-launches the race. But it soon becomes obvious that he is more interested in furthering his own ambitions and lining his pockets than helping the town. And he doesn’t mind hurting Red and Gran in the process.

Chris McKenna will be narrating, with musical direction by Len Vorster on piano.

WW2 and The Vietnam War will also be remembered with more songs and stories, including special tributes to the Andrew Sisters and Dame Vera Lynn.

All of this will be performed with a backdrop of powerful war images on the big screen.

And let’s not forget classic Aussie Christmas songs like Deck the Sheds With Bits of Wattle and Have Yourselves a Ripper Christmas!
